We launched our appeal on 26th March to support our amazing and dedicated NHS staff. They are putting in such a super-human effort for us all and are at the forefront of the appeal. Here’s what happened next. Following the launch, two of our trustees, Susie and Judi, helped to convert our shop into a temporary distribution centre to provide food and drink for NHS staff. We donated our existing stock to this project.

Appeal update

At the time of writing, we are delighted to tell you we have raised over £10,000!  A massive thank you to everyone who has donated and for all the messages of support received. Here are some of the ways people have been fundraising for our appeal.

Jill held a sale of her own cultivated garden plants and raised £170.

Kate Hughes raised £500 with her #kissesforcharingcross fundraiser. People were nominated to give online kisses and raise funds.

In 2019, Emma Gold’s father discovered he had an unruptured brain aneurysm. Thanks to the amazing doctors, nurses and surgeons at Charing Cross Hospital, he has since made a full recovery. Emma wanted to help and is still fundraising for our appeal with her #tiedyetogether campaign. She tie-dyes items of clothing and sells them online every Wednesday at 6.30pm – you can find the link here.  The clothing is very popular and Emma has already raised over £800 for our appeal!

Messages of support

Here are just a few of the messages of support left on our appeal page:

“Great initiative – All our best to everybody working at and supporting the hospital during these challenging times. Real heroes.”

“Thank you for your heroic work. I owe my life to Charing Cross Hospital and the wonderful staff. God bless you all and keep you safe. xXx”

“Thanks to everyone based at Charing Cross. We fought hard to save our hospital little knowing that 2020 would be our year of greatest need.”

“Thank you NHS workers!”

“Always grateful that Charing Cross is there for us, thanks for your hard work.”

“You looked after me, now I can do a very small thing to look after you. Thank you for all you’ve done and all the work you continue to do. xx”

“I had wonderful care at Charing Cross Hospital when I had a burst appendix in mid-February, and was in intensive care for 3 days.   This is for all the staff who helped me get well afterwards on Ward 7 North!”

Where has your money been spent?

Because of your donations and fundraising, we have been able to keep our shop stocked with free supplies for our NHS staff. In addition, we provided equipment to the on-site nursery, in support of key workers’ children.

Our appeal is still open for donations here.

Thank you for all your support – we truly appreciate it.
