This week is World #Breastfeeding Week. #WBW2022 is focusing on strengthening the capacity of actors that have to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, across different levels of society. These actors make up the #warmchain of support for breastfeeding. Our Board of Trustees is being complemented with two new additions, Daniel de Wolf and Luisa Messina. They bring excellent knowledge and skills to our Board with coaching, strategic planning, partnership development and knowledge of the third sector in #Hammersmith. The Board is completed with a new Chair, Enzo Martinelli, who stepped up from the previous role of Secretary, Charlotte Rawley and Kavyesh Vivek. The new Board will be launching soon new initiatives in the local community of Hammersmith & Fulham Council with a focus on #communityhealth and #socialinclusion.

This is an #appeal to our many volunteer #knitters who have helped us with baby items to be distributed at the hospital in the past. Can I ask them to get in touch so some more knitting can be put to good use. Baron’s Court Project for homeless people is asking for some knitted #stripes to be collected and sewn into #blankets for the winter for the benefit of #homelesspeople in #Hammersmith. Stripes can be 175 cm long and 16 cm wide, or also wider. Can you help with your #knitting skills? #volunteering #communitysupport

We are delighted to announce we have a new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Enzo Martinelli, already a Trustee and Secretary for a year, has stepped up to the leading role within our Board.

Enzo Martinelli is an international development professional who has been working for over 30 years for international NGOs based in the UK, Germany and Italy. Succeeding in senior management positions in these diverse international settings, Enzo has gained expertise in organisational development, resource mobilisation, programme development and project management. His competence is now available as trustee or non-executive director to small and medium-sized organisations within the international development sector and in other areas that reflect his varied interests: human rights, environmental protection, microfinance, community development, music and visual arts.

Accepting the new role, Enzo has expressed what will be the inspiration for his mandate: “Developing community support for health and social marginalisation issues in Hammersmith, with respect for the long standing heritage of hospital charities is going to be my inspiring vision as a new Chair. Holistic Therapy Day is celebrated on July 26 each year. Holistic therapy treats the human body as a synergy of mind, body, and soul. It aims to bring a harmonious balance among all the elements of the being. Unlike modern medicine, it does not treat an ailment or disease as an isolated problem. Holistic therapy believes every being is an amalgamation of their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects, so, recommends a comprehensive treatment that works towards nurturing all of them.

Holistic therapy supports that an imbalance in one aspect of the self can cause distress in another. For instance, prolonged mental stress has the potential to transform into physical sickness, hence, it aims to heal holistically rather than palliatively.

The practice of holistic therapy extends beyond the therapy room. A self-care practice that centers and nurtures all our senses falls under the umbrella of #holistictherapy. #communityhealth

July is #SarcomaAwarenessMonth, an opportunity to raise #awareness about a #cancer form that is less known and for which little research is being conducted. Simply, #sarcoma is still considered to be the “forgotten cancer.” Efforts to encourage research and drug development are made more challenging due to a lack of awareness and understanding. Friends of Charing Cross Hospital is joining the awareness campaign, along with many organisations like @sarcoma_uk @curesarcoma and @sarcomaalliance in their communication efforts.
During Sarcoma Awareness Month the campaign aims to further highlight the extraordinary challenges that sarcoma patients face and the need for more sarcoma research and better sarcoma therapies. Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels and the fatty and fibrous tissues.

They can affect almost any part of the body, on the inside or the outside. 10 people every day are diagnosed with sarcoma in the UK

About 3,800 new cases of sarcoma are diagnosed each year in the UK which makes up approximately 1% of all cancer diagnoses. #communityhealth #focxh #hammersmith
